Brenda Kay Hayes, age 55, died at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas, on Thursday, March 19, 2015.

Born August 13, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas, she lived in Denver, Colorado and Topeka Kansas, before settling in Houston. She worked at Park Manor of Westchase nursing home as a dietitian where she enjoyed working with the staff and residents. Brenda Kay was very passionate about helping others and shared her love of cooking by volunteering to feed the homeless several times a year and collected and delivered clothing for women and children living in shelters....

Born August 13, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas, she lived in Denver, Colorado and Topeka Kansas, before settling in Houston. She worked at Park Manor of Westchase nursing home as a dietitian where she enjoyed working with the staff and residents. Brenda Kay was very passionate about helping others and shared her love of cooking by volunteering to feed the homeless several times a year and collected and delivered clothing for women and children living in shelters.

Mrs. Hayes' survivors include her three children: Tyrone Smith of Aurora, Colorado, Rotishia Hayes, and Christopher Hayes, both of Topeka, Kansas. She also leaves her father Alton Smith and siblings Ruby Lockett, Inez Reed (Anthony), Betty Pope, Verdell Veal, Alton Smith Jr., and Barry Smith. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her husband James, beloved mother, Verda Smith, and sister, Ardie Johnson.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079 with visitation starting at 11:30 AM followed by a memorial service at 12:30 PM.
